Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What is Lessonspace?
Lessonspace is a browser-based virtual classroom built for online teaching and tutoring. It brings video calls, collaborative whiteboards, documents and teaching tools together in one space, so tutors and students can focus on the lesson.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. You can try Lessonspace free for 14 days with access to all Lessonspace features. No credit card is required to start your trial.
Do I need to install anything to use Lessonspace?
No. Lessonspace runs directly in your browser, so there’s no software to download or install. For the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of a supported browser.
What devices and browsers can I use with Lessonspace?
Lessonspace works on laptops, desktops, tablets and smartphones, with no downloads required. For the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox. Make sure you visit our Help Centre for the latest information on supported devices, browsers and feature availability.
What do I need to use Lessonspace?
All you need is a laptop or desktop with a microphone, a reliable internet connection and a modern browser. A webcam is recommended but not required, and tablets and smartphones can also be used.
How do I get started? Is there a tutorial I can follow?
Yes! Our Help Centre has everything you need to get started with Lessonspace, from setting up your first Space to inviting students and using the classroom tools. Visit our Help Centre to explore our guides and tutorials.
Do tutors and students need their own paid Lessonspace accounts?
No. Teachers and students who are part of an existing organization don’t need to create or pay for their own Lessonspace subscription – their organization can add them to its account.
How many people can join a Space?
Up to 10 people can currently join a Space with video feeds, making Lessonspace suitable for both one-to-one and small-group teaching. Additional usage charges apply to sessions with more than 4 participants. We’re working on expanding support for larger groups, so keep an eye on our roadmap for updates.
Does my lesson content stay in the Space between lessons?
Yes. Your Space automatically saves, so whiteboards and lesson materials remain there when you leave and are ready for your next lesson. You can use the same Space for recurring lessons with the same student or group.
Can I record lessons?
Yes. Organizations can enable lesson recordings and control who can access them. Recordings are stored for 90 days by default, with options to change the retention period. Learn more about enabling, viewing and sharing session recordings.
Is Lessonspace secure?
Yes. Lessonspace takes data security and privacy seriously and is SOC 2 Type II certified and compliant with GDPR and COPPA. You can find more information about our security, privacy and compliance practices in our Trust Centre.
Does Lessonspace integrate with my tutoring or scheduling platform?
Lessonspace integrates with a range of tutoring, scheduling and learning platforms. You can also connect Lessonspace to your own website or application using our API.
How much does Lessonspace cost?
Plans start at $9/month for individual tutors, with plans for tutoring businesses and larger organizations based on their usage and needs.
How does billing work?
Lessonspace plans include a set amount of lesson time. Billable time only starts when two or more people are in a Space at the same time, so tutors can prepare or wait for a student without using their included hours.
What happens if I go over my included hours?
You can continue using Lessonspace if you go over the hours included in your plan. Additional usage is charged at your plan’s overage rate, or you can upgrade to a plan with more included hours.
Do you offer plans for larger tutoring organizations?
Yes. We offer Enterprise options for larger organizations with higher usage or additional requirements such as integrations, support and SLAs.
How reliable is Lessonspace?
Lessonspace maintains 99.99% uptime, with dedicated servers across multiple regions worldwide. You can check the current status at any time on our Status Page.
What should I do if I experience technical issues?
Most technical issues can be resolved with a few quick checks. Visit our Help Centre for troubleshooting guides covering audio, video, connectivity, screen sharing and more. If you’re still having trouble, our Support team is happy to help.
